ORIGINAL WORK

The Original Work will consist of a collection of activities that young children can undergo under the supervision of a Neuropsychologist in order to more effectively identify tell-tale signs of Schizophrenia.

What is Schizophrenia?

The term Schizophrenia refers to a wide array of separate specific conditions, but they all share common key components. This mental disorder is categorized by hallucinations and delusions.

Hallucinations involve the brain registering some form of input when there is none, as in seeing or hearing things that are not there.  Delusions are ideas that the individual perceives to be completely true and valid but are actually false.

As with any mental condition, it is not a disorder unless it significantly impacts a person's health, relationships, and/or daily life.

Why Schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia shares many common characteristics with other mental disorders, and therefore may often be misdiagnosed or even disregarded. It is also especially rare in younger populations, begging the question of whether these age groups actually suffer fewer cases or if their cases are just more difficult to identify. The goal of these activities is to make the identification of Schizophrenic symptoms in younger populations more interactive and efficient.

What Types of Activities?

Children love to pretend and act out scenes, and the things they do or say while acting may reveal a lot about what occurs inside their heads. The Original Work will provide specific scenarios that can be acted out with children along with questions the Neuropsychologist will ask the children in order to identify possible signs of Schizophrenia.
